I’m the former Diane Brownlee who started in the Geology Department in the Fall of 1976 and graduated with my Geology BS in December 1978. I didn’t spend a long time in the department, but my time was highly concentrated and I had a great many classes with you. It is hard to believe how long ago that was – I remember you coming in complaining about turning 30! If only either of us could see 30 again!
After TCU I spend 2.5 years at OU getting my MS in Geology. Then I took a position with Phillips Petroleum in Denver, until they closed that office. My family then bounced with Phillips to Houston and Bartlesville until I bailed out of the industry in 1992. Later that year, I started working for a small GIS/mapping firm in Kansas City doing a variety of administrative tasks (my husband worked there too). Within 6 months I was offered the HR Manager job (which I knew nothing about), but I took it and started learning on the job. I decided I needed more than OJT and went to Ottawa University KC for my MA in Human Resources Management which I got in 1997 despite having a full time job and two grade school age boys. GE bought the company in 2003 and I hung on until last year – just too big for my blood.
I’m now HR Manager for a 400-person lumber company here in Kansas City. My husband is in charge of the GIS/Mapping group at Black and Veatch; our oldest son is a freshman at Georgia Tech studying Electrical Engineering; and our 16-year old is set for early graduation this spring so he can spend what would have been his senior year in Germany on a foreign exchange. Life is good, but I don’t miss Geology very much. I’ve decided people are more interesting than rocks. 10/06

I have lived in Tallahassee for almost 20 years. I teach Earth Science and Environmental Geology at Tallahassee Community College. I have 3 children, one daughter and two sons (two in college, one in high school) and my husband is a ground water geologist for the State of FL. I've never met another TCU alum in Tallahassee and I would be interested to know if there are any others here. 10/06

I thought I would send you some pictures while I was goofing off anyway. We are moving into our new house about 7 miles south of Kendalia, TX on the Guadalupe River in November. The house is built on the basal Glen Rose, and the Hensell and Cow Creek crop out below us to the river. Having a blast in the Hill Country...so nice to be out of Louisiana! 10/06
